Each year on my birthday, July 31st, I am choosing a different charity to donate 33% of my proceeds from Peace in the Present Moment with Eckhart Tolle and Byron Katie to. This past year, the charity I chose was the Women’s Domestic Peace Foundation. This year, I’ve chosen The Women’s Resource Center.
The Women’s Resource Center of Sarasota County is a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization with a 34 year history of service. Their mission is “to create personal, social and professional growth opportunities for women and provide strategies for living that strengthen them, their families and their communities.
“The Women’s Resource Center of Sarasota County is here to support you on your journey – whether your are adjusting to a career change, concerned about financial security, coping with difficult family relationships or seeking opportunities for personal growth and self-sufficiency. We invite you to take your next steps with the help of the Women’s Resource Center. Our caring team will provide you the resources, guidance and support you need to create your own solutions. And, we will be here to celebrate your accomplishments. “
Programs and Classes –
Challenge is an intensive life skills program created to enhance the personal and professional growth of women in our community.
Any woman in transition, including job loss, retirement, personal issues or simply being new in the area can benefit from this series of classes. The topics discussed help participants to gain self-esteem, develop coping skills, build confidence, set goals and advance job and communication skills.
We also offer RETOS, which is the same core Challenge curriculum but for the Spanish-speaking woman.
“I know better how to deal with anger, set boundaries, and be more assertive… and I have learned a lot from others and made some good friends.”
“It reaffirmed in me the fact that I am deserving of being treated with respect and nurturing love.”
“I feel I have gotten my foot in the door towards moving forward.”
“Employment and Business Success provides assistance to anyone seeking a new job, scholarships for further education or improved employment opportunities. The program offers one-on-one career counseling sessions, tips for resume writing, job search strategies, employment support groups and a career center with available computers and resources.
Peer Resource Advising – Caring and non-judgmental peer resource advisors are volunteers trained in active listening. They refer clients to services and programs within the WRCSC as well as to other community agencies – all within a confidential environment. Peer resource advisors are extremely knowledgeable in the resources available in our community.
The Returnship program offers a comprehensive collection of classes to sharpen job skills and increase confidence in the job search. This curriculum includes interviewing, time management, computer training, resume writing, business skills and etiquette to develop professionalism in women who are unemployed or who are re-entering the workforce. Classes in self-esteem, image consulting and more are also included.
A variety of programs are offered including yoga, art shows, motivational speakers, social events, financial, legal and computer classes and much more.”
